Hello!  It’s time for the 100th weekly challenge at Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge, unfortunately, comes with some bittersweet news.  Because the clear stamps and dies part of the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps business is booming, Korin (the owner) is needing to let some things in her life go – and sadly, this challenge blog is one of those things.  This week’s challenge will be the last Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge.  All the current Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images will continue to be sold in the Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps online store, but there will be no more regularly scheduled new digi releases.

However, since 100 challenges is still a major milestone, we are going out with a celebratory bang!  One participant in this week’s challenge will receive 3 Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images of his/her choice.  Participants who use a SNSS digital image in their work may link their project twice, for an additional chance to win.  Please see the SNSDC site for all the details on how you can win this fun prize.

This week’s challenge is Pick Your Favorite!  Take a look through the previous Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenges and choose one of them to inspire your project.  When you write your challenge description, please share which challenge you used.  Remember to use a digital image as the main focal point of your creation!

I had a really hard time settling on one previous challenge, and I didn’t have time to make multiple cards.  So I’ve combined three of my favorite challenges into this one card.  Those of you who have been reading my blog for some time know how much I enjoy making cards for Operation Write Home – for our country’s military men and women who are stationed overseas to be able to write to their loved ones at home.  A lot of those heroes have children waiting at home for them.  So I felt compelled to use SNSDC93, a card for a child.  I just love all the cute Sweet ‘n Sassy critters, so that tied SNSDC99 into today’s card.  I also like stitching on my cards (even though I don’t do it very often) so that incorporated SNSDC77.  I was also aiming for SNSDC58, to make a clean and simple card, but I used one of the OWH Stars & Stamps bonus sketches for the layout and it turned out more accurately described as clean and layered.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge blog through their participation in the challenges.  I know I’ll miss being part of the SNSDC design team.

Hello! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week we have a theme challenge: Cute & Cuddly. You’ll need to create a project using a digital image of a cute, cuddly animal. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we really enjoy seeing our participants use them.

For my card, I’ve turned to one of my favorite Sweet ‘n Sassy images. Rhubarb the bear is holding a heart full of love for someone special. Because crafting time has been in short supply for me this week, I knew it would be quicker to paper piece Rhubarb rather than to color him. (However, I did color in his ears, eyes and nose with a marker.)  Although the bow is kind of a feminine touch, I am hoping that the color scheme gives this card a gender neutral vibe. The layout is the current one from Freshly Made Sketches, but stretched into a rectangle.

It’s Friday!  Welcome to another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge.  This week we’re challenging our participants to create a project inspired by Spring.  You can make a card, layout, or 3-D item, so long as you use a digital image for your main focal point.  Although you aren’t required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, we especially love it when our challenge players do use them.  Be sure to link your work at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by Thursday, April 4.

I have to admit I had a hard time feeling the Spring season this week.  Sunday and Monday we received about 5 inches of snow.  It’s all melted now, but the temperatures are still cooler than normal for this time of year here in the Shenandoah Valley.  Although my daffodils and tulips are sprouting, nothing has bloomed yet and I haven’t even seen any blossoms at all on my mini daffodils.

So, to make up for the lack of flowers outside, I created a card with some spring flowers.  I actually printed this border of flowers a few weeks ago, when I was working on challenge #96.  But I printed it too large to work on that card.  So I set this aside until now.  This time I’ve used it with a slight modification of OWH Stars & Stamps sketch #10 .  I was in one of my KISS moods so I decided to use a monochromatic color scheme.  (KISS = Keep It Simple, Stamper)  The sentiment comes from a set called Masculine Birthday Greetings, but I think this font works well on more feminine cards, too.

Hello! Happy Friday! Are you ready for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge?

This week’s challenge is Happy Birthday, Fellas. Make a birthday card for a guy of any age from 1 to 101! Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your card. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love it when our participants use them.

I noticed I’d had this image for a while and hadn’t used it yet, so I figured this challenge was a perfect opportunity to change that. Tank the cat is in a party mood with his hat and his horn. The “Celebrate!” sentiment comes with the image. However, I’ve used my photo editing program to separate the two so I can print them individually. The designer papers are actually from a set of digital designs, too, but the company that created them is no longer in business. I’ve been trying to play catchup on some of the OWH Stars and Stamps sketches that I’ve missed. Today’s card uses sketch #150.

Hello!  Happy Friday! Today is especially exciting because Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps is introducing several new digital images! There are four beautiful flowers and two sets of sentiments. The rest of the design team and I are showcasing different ones this week, so please check out everyone’s blogs so you can see all the loveliness! And just in case you need an additional reason to visit the design team’s blogs – one of us is a “mystery blogger”. One of the people who comments on her blog will be chosen at random to receive the entire new digital release! It’s so much of a mystery that even we team members don’t know yet who it is – so be sure to visit them all!

Since it’s Friday, we also have a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge. This week we’re asking you to create a Z-fold card using a digital image as your focal point. Although we especially enjoy seeing what our challenge participants make with Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images, you can use a digi from any stamp company. The design team received the new images a few days ago so we could have some lead time for making our cards for today’s post.  When I first saw them, I immediately thought of this week’s OWH Stars and Stamps sketch.  So I tweaked the measurements given in the Z-fold tutorial to make it work for a portrait-oriented A2 card, and I turned the sketch on its side to allow me to combine the two challenges.  Since there were four floral images and I had only 3 blocks on the sketch, I had to choose which flower not to use.  So I decided to use the three that made me think most of Spring.  The daffodil and tulip were easy picks, and then I figured I’d go with the lily because of Easter lilies – although I ended up coloring mine pink instead of leaving it white. I had to resize the images down somewhat so I could fit all three of them on that panel of the card. But that’s one of the fun things about digital images – being able to manipulate them to fit the needs of your card.

Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is to Go Green. Create a project using the color green, and/or repurpose or recycle something on your project. Be sure to use a digital image for your main focal point! You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, March 14.

I’ll admit it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do for this challenge. I do like to recycle things when I can, but nothing was really striking my fancy for the challenge. Then yesterday afternoon I walked by my dresser and this ticket seemed to call out to me. I’ve had it sitting there for a while; it’s from our high school’s football team’s playoff game. But I figured I could work it into a card. And it was green. Since football season is still quite a way off, but baseball is getting into swing (sorry, pun actually not intended for once!), I decided to use the Baseball Rhubarb image and give Rhubarb a green uniform.  I used Microsoft Word to create the sentiment, and notched the ends of the strip to form the banner shape.

This is going in my box of cards for Operation Write Home, and I think it’s neutral enough that one of our military personnel could send it home to either a boy or a girl.  The colors tie in with this week’s Inkspirational challenge.  This week’s theme at ‘ABC’ Challenges is “Anything Goes” – so that means this card can be entered there, too.

Hello! Happy Friday! Can you believe it’s March already? Time sure does fly when you’re having fun, and I’ve been having fun with a lot of cardmaking challenges lately. Since it’s Friday, that means it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! Are you ready for it?

This week’s challenge is All Things Girly. Make a card suitable to give a girl of any age from 1 to 101! Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your card. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love seeing our challenge participants use them.

Since Spring is trying to get here, I’ve chosen an image suitable for the season. Spring makes me think of pastel colors, so I picked some from the designer paper. The sentiment is from a Sweet ‘n Sassy clear stamp set called “Christmas Tags”, but it includes several sentiments that can be used year round, such as this “thank you”. I thought the script font went well with the feminine theme. The sketch used for the layout comes from this week’s ‘ABC’ Challenges.

Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! We have a fun theme for our challenge this week – create a card for a child. It can be for any occasion, so long as it’s appropriate for a child.  You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, February 28.

I’ve actually created a trio of cards for this challenge. I was inspired to do multiple cards by Leslie’s OWH Virtual Card Making Party challenge, which was to use one sheet of 12″ x 12″ designer paper to create at least 6 cards using a certain OWH Stars & Stamps sketch. Well, I got halfway there before I started running out of time to get this blog post written.  So I’ll share what I have.  For my 12″ x 12″ paper, I decided to part ways with one of the designs from the Basic Grey “Phoebe” collection.  I used scraps from the coordinating 6″ x 6″ paper pad to paper piece the bears because I wasn’t in a mood to color with markers.  I kept the cards a consistent theme with Rhubarb the bear images and bear-related sentiments.  I added some linen thread for the balloon strings on the birthday card.  I used a scrap from a different 6″ x 6″ pad for the darker brown Rhubarb on the ice cream cone card.  I had to make that bear darker so the cone would show up against his tummy.  I’ve changed things up a little on the cards by varying the width of the vertical strip, and the length of the sentiment panel, and by adding mats and using pop dots to attach Rhubarb on a couple of the cards.

Hello!  It’s Friday!  And because it’s the third Friday of the month, it’s New Digi Release Day at Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps!   Lots of great new digital stamp sets are being introduced today – four adorable bunny rabbit images, a set of sentiments, and a set of springtime images such as butterflies, bees and a flower.  The rest of the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge design team and I are showcasing different ones today, so please check out everyone’s blogs so you can see all the fun new stuff!  Be sure to leave a comment on each of the design team members’ blogs, too – one of us is a mystery blogger, and one person who comments on her blog post will be chosen at random to receive the entire new release!  Links are over in the left sidebar, but if you lose track while visiting around, you can always go back to the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge blog and start anew.  And yes – there are lots of new links over there because we have five new design team members!  Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Lawren Folkes, Jamie Moore, Debbie Owens, Melissa Shultz, and Ann Tuck!

Our Digi Challenge this week is 3-2-1.  For your project that uses a digital image as its focal point, you’ll need to use 3 of one item, 2 of a different item, and 1 of something else.  When you write up your blog post or upload description, please include details to let us know what your 3-2-1 items are.  Be sure to link your project to the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge blog by midnight Thursday, February 21.  You aren’t required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!).

I’ve used the new image Bunny 1 and two of the images from Spring Add-ons – so the “3” part of my card is three different digital images.  My “2” things are two dies – the circle and the fence.  And I’ve used one pearl to embellish the center of the layered Prima flowers.  I played around with resizing and rotating the images so I could have the butterfly lighting on the bunny’s nose, and so that the flowers would be facing in different directions.  Because the deadline for submitting Easter cards to Operation Write Home has passed, I opted to create a non-seasonal sentiment in Microsoft Word and printed that out to use.  I was trying to go for the look of the bunny and the flowers against a backdrop of the rising sun.  I’m not sure I’ve accomplished that successfully, but I’m OK with how the card turned out.  Once again, I’ve used Freshly Made Sketches #73 for the layout, but this time I’ve turned it into a tall rectangle.

Hello! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week we have a color challenge: Pink and Black. You’ll need to create a card using a digital image and showcasing the colors pink and black! You may also use white or cream/ivory cardstock and embellishments. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we really enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!).

I decided to get a start on Mother’s Day cards for Operation Write Home, so that’s how I chose the sentiment and the feminine feel of my card.  The layout is a Sweet Stop sketch from several weeks ago, turned on its side.  In retrospect considering the challenge theme, I probably should have used more pink and black and less ivory, but I’m happy with how the card turned out.

Hello! Happy Friday, and happy February! Are you ready for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge?

This week’s challenge is Valentines and Love. Make a card for Valentine’s Day or simply to celebrate love in general. Just be sure you use at least one digital image for the focal point of your card. You’re not required to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do love it when our participants use them.

I’ve chosen to make a love themed card that could be used for Valentine’s Day or for any other time of the year.  That’s the theme of this week’s ABC Challenge, too.  (Considering the time of year, I’m willing to bet it’s the theme for a lot of challenge sites right now!)  Once again, I’ve gone to the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog for the layout of my card.  I paper pieced Opal Owl for the “any shape” part of the layout, and I moved the sentiment panel lower down on the card so that Opal could perch on it.  I did “cheat” a bit on the paper piecing; rather than cut the beak and feet separately, I just colored them. I figured it was worth it not to fiddle with teeny tiny pieces. The design in this one patterned paper reminded me vaguely of feathers, so I used that for the background and planned the rest of my color scheme around it.

Hello! It’s Friday! I am looking forward to this weekend! My older son has been accepted into the 16th annual Virginia Tech Honor Band, so we will be heading to Blacksburg along with several other students from his school and two other parent chaperones. It should be a lot of fun. I just hope the weather isn’t too brutal. I don’t mind snow, but I’m not a big fan of ice nor strong, cold winds. At any rate, it will definitely be a learning experience.

Another fun thing about it being Friday is that it’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is called It’s All White. Only white cardstock can be used on your project! You’re allowed to color your digital image, and you may use embellishments that are colored. But no colored cardstock, and no pretty designer papers – unless they are white! You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, January 31.

I’ve made a birthday card for today’s challenge, mainly because I wanted to add another birthday card to the box I sent yesterday to Operation Write Home for their Race You to the Mailbox card drive.  I colored the Tommy Turtle image and the balloons with Copic markers and cut them apart so I could add in twine for the balloon strings.  I printed Tommy’s left front leg and colored it an additional time so I could attach it over top of the balloon strings to make it look like he’s really holding them.  I knew I wanted to color Tommy green, but I was having a hard time deciding what color(s) to make the balloons.  So I looked to the OWH Design Bootcamp post on color theory for suggestions.  I chose to use red balloons for a complimentary color scheme with the green.  The layout for this card comes from this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.  It’s a great sketch that can be played down for a CAS card or played up with lots of layers or embellishments.  I also noticed that this week’s ABC Challenge is to make birthday cards, so I figured why not join in that one, too.

Happy Friday! It’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge is an easy one: Anything Goes! Simply make something featuring a digital image. It can be a card, a gift bag, a tag, a scrapbooking layout, or an altered project. The sky’s the limit! Share your artwork over at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge website before midnight eastern time Thursday, January 24. We’d love to see what you create! Although we especially enjoy seeing what our challenge participants make with Sweet ‘n Sassy digital images, you can use a digi from any stamp company.

Today is especially exciting because Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps is introducing 7 new digital images!  That’s right, 7!  Let me tell you, they are ADORABLE.  Each is a different animal with a sentiment to match.  The rest of the design team and I are showcasing different ones this week, so please check out everyone’s blogs so you can see all the new cuties!  Links are over in the left sidebar.  And yes – there are two new links over there because we have two new design team members!  Welcome, Lori Finch and Amy Wright!

I have two projects for you today.  The first one uses the Turtley Awesome image and its accompanying sentiment.  I chose this image because I wanted to add a card that could be sent to a boy to my Operation Write Home stash.  The layout for this card started off as this week’s Splitcoaststampers.com sketch challenge, but I decided to leave off one of the sketch elements.  I’ve paper pieced the turtle using two shades of green designer paper, and I used dimensional adhesive to pop its head out of its shell.  Although there isn’t a dominating amount of green on this card, I think it still fits into this week’s OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge.

 

My other project is another card for Operation Write Home.  I chose to use the image from Thank Ewe in a different way.  I added a little bit of coloring to the lamb to give it some visual dimension (although it would also be cute with the head popped up like I did with the turtle), paired it with this week’s Stars & Stamps sketch, and added a sentiment from one of the Sweet ‘n Sassy clear stamp sets.  And ta-da: an Easter lamb!  I did mirror-image the sketch so the lamb wouldn’t appear to be looking off the edge of the card.  The oval element of the sketch reminds me of an Easter egg!

Happy Friday! It’s time for a new Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week our challenge is to create a project using a Coffee, Tea, or Hot Cocoa digital image. You don’t have to use a Sweet ‘n Sassy digital image, but we do enjoy seeing our participants use them (and you get the chance for extra perks if you do – see the Digi Challenge site for more details!). Link your card at the Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge site by midnight eastern time Thursday, January 17.

I’ve used the Cocoa’s Latte image for my card.  One of my goals for 2013 is to use up as much of my older crafting supplies as possible, so I figured I’d start on that by using some of my oldest designer paper for this card.  I also thought the dark brown background was kind of representative of coffee.  I’ve had the brown flower-shaped buttons for a while, too.  I decided to paper piece the sleeve around the coffee cup, but the rest of the image is colored with Copic markers.  (The yellow cup matches the yellow cardstock better in real life than in the photo.)  Because I’m not a coffee drinker,  I was a little stumped as to what to use for a sentiment.  So I asked my coffee-loving friend Victoria for suggestions and she came up with this one.  Thanks, V!  It’s perfect for a card to send to Operation Write Home. I just used my computer to generate it and printed it out along with the image. The layout for this card is the sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.

Hi, and Happy New Year! We’ve made it through another week, and now it’s Friday again, which means it’s time for another Sweet ‘n Sassy Digi Challenge! This week’s challenge should be pretty fun: Use a new product or technique and a digital image to make your project. The new product I chose to work with isn’t entirely brand new to the crafting world. I had bought a set of Faber Castell Gelatos at a scrapbooking/stamping store in Florida when my family was visiting my in-laws over Thanksgiving, but with the busy-ness of preparing for Christmas, I didn’t have a chance to do anything with them until now.  So I browsed YouTube for video tutorials using this coloring medium and learned several different techniques to use with them.  I’ve tried mine out in two different ways, so I have two cards for you today. Both cards use the same floral images.

For the flowers on the first card, I rubbed two colors of the Gelatos on the flowers, not trying to be totally precise on getting the color to cover the flower. Then I used my fingertip to blend the colors together to completely cover the image, before cutting the flower images from the cardstock.  A couple things I noted: 1) The colors blended more easily the heavier I applied them to the paper, and the warmer my fingers were, and 2) The colors wash off fingers VERY easily, with no staining!  The Gelatos I have are metallic, but the shimmer seemed to disappear into the cardstock after several hours.  On the card below, you can still see a bit of shimmer on the flower on the right. I wanted the sentiment on this card to take up a fair amount of vertical space, but I also wanted one that would be practical for Operation Write Home.  So I took one of the choices from the Mother’s Day Sentiments digital set, used my photo editing software to break each word into its own file, and then reassembled the words into three lines instead of the original one long, narrow line.  I used one of my newest Nestabilities dies to cut the sentiment panel, and then framed it with cardstock that coordinated with the colors I used for the flowers.

 

The packaging stated that the Gelatos can be blended either with or without water, so I tried watercoloring some of the flower images with them.  I applied the Gelatos to the cardstock, and then blended them with a slightly wet paintbrush.  Wow!  The colors blended SO easily!  It was almost like magic.  I let the images dry completely before cutting them out.  I noticed that the watercolored images turned out a tiny bit lighter in color than the ones I blended with my fingertip, but they retained a whole lot more shimmer than the finger-blended ones.  However, if you rub the watercolored images with your finger, a little of the shimmer comes off on your finger.  This doesn’t happen with the finger-blended ones.  So I’m a bit hesitant about using the watercolored ones on cards for Operation Write Home.  (NOTE – Not all Gelatos are metallic like mine are.  This is 100% totally a guess, but I’d think that images watercolored with non-metallic Gelatos would be all right for OWH.)  I decided to make a birthday card with the watercolored flowers, and I’ll send it to one of my friends.  I used the current Freshly Made Sketches layout for this card, stretching it out to a rectangle.  You can tell from the photo that these flowers have more shimmer than the ones on the first card.  I used a sentiment from a clear Sweet ‘n Sassy stamp set on this card, rather than trying to put the entire card base through the printer.  On both this card and the first one, the purple cardstock coordinates better with the rest of the card in real life than the picture shows.

So, there you have it – two different ways to use Faber Castell Gelatos.
